GC and NSD Education Seminar in UB, Mongolia

The first educational seminar for the teachers of the newly established school known as the “Tusgal” which means “Reflection” at UlaanBaatarSeventh-day Adventist Church was conducted by the GC/NSD Education Departments from July 18 to 20, 2012.   Dr Mike Lekic, GC Associate Education Director, Dr Chek Yat Phoon, NSD Education Director and Dr Sally Lam-Phoon, NSD Children’s, Family and Women Ministries Director were the main seminar presenters at the premise of the school.


This school was first opened unofficially on September 1, 2009 with 19 students and 6 teachers.  For 2 years the leaders of MMF enthusiastically and vigorously worked onsecuring the official government license from the Mongolia Education Department.   Finally in 2011, August 31, the license was granted.  Now this school is taking the necessary step to prepare for accreditation from the Adventist Accrediting Association.  At present, there are 8 full-time teachers with 9 part-time teachers and 32 students.



At the seminar, DrChek Yat Phoon gave the devotions on “The Call of God to Work in His Vineyard” and presented the seminars on “What Every Adventist Christian Teacher Should Know”, “The Northern Asia-Pacific Division Educational Challenge”; “Orientation for the Commission on Accreditation” and the “Preparation for the AAA Visit”.  Dr Sally Phoon spoke on “The Philosophy of Adventist Christian Education” and “Teaching Students with their Multiple Intelligences.”  Dr Mike Lekic presented the “Characteristics of Adventist Educators:  A Recommitment to Excellence in Ministry and the Academics for Life and Eternity”; “NSD Teachers’ Performance Standards”.  He also oriented them on the work of the Accrediting Association for Schools, Colleges, and Universities’ (AAA) and the IBE (International Board of Education) and IBMTE (The International Board of Ministerial & Theological Education).The presentations were received with great enthusiasm.


It is the prayer of all that this school will grow from strength to strength as it prepares itself for accreditation and stands as a witness for the Lord in Mongolia.
