Taiwan Adventist Hospital began it’s half-century anniversary celebration with more than 500 people, including the incumbent high officers from the government and church leaders on March 27, 2005, in the newly built auditorium of the ‘Health Management Center’.
The Taipei Deputy Mayor, Yeh Ching-Chuan and two government health bureau officers congratulated the hospital staff on the anniversary delivering thankful messages for what the hospital has contributed to the Taiwan nation with caring, healing and preventive health.
Six former board chairmen of the hospital including Larry R. Colburn (chaired 1976-1981), the Adventist worldwide church vice president Eugene Hsu, the Northern Asia-Pacific Division Executive Secretary Stanley Ng, and the former presidents including Albert R. Deininger (1975-1987) participated at the festival of the celebration adding more meaningful memories.
The President of the Taiwan Adventist Hospital, Su, Chu Hui (Susan) said, “Under God’s blessings the hospital has served the community for 50 years. We hope to continue to share the gospel and good quality of life, preparing for the coming of the Savior.”
There were 17 hospitals in China including the Adventist Sanitarium in Shanghai founded by Dr. Harry Miller before year 1949. Soon after the change of government on the mainland the Church and the Hospital were relocated to Taipei. The hospital was officially opened on March 28, 1955 in Taipei with Dr. Harry Miller as its chief operating officer.
Dr. Eugene Hsu said “50 years ago it was a 70 bed mission hospital surrounded by rice fields and it has now grown to the 459-bed, state of the art modern hospital and become one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the heart of Taipei.”
During the event, there was a grand opening of the newly built ‘Health Management Center.’ The new center is focused on preventive health. It will start the NEWSTART programs and preventive medical services in June.
