Currently there are about 300,000 Brazilian residents in
Japan
. For the foreigners it is no doubt that their lives have various difficulties starting from the language. Further more, when they become an Adventist, relationship with their friends in workplaces and secular society is very limited because of no-drinking and Sabbath-keeping. In spite of the hardship, church life can give wonderful change and comfort to them.
They are provided with the Sabbath school guide, worship service and even singing in their language, Portuguese which the church provides every Sabbath. The church in Shizuoka-ken is a kind of Oasis in the middle of desert. During the Sabbath school, they stand up and greet each others with smiles hugging with tapping on the shoulder. They thank the Lord and share their testimonies and experiences which have happened during the week, and pray for each other to become the unity.
About 40 members attend the church regularly every Sabbath. There is a youth group and they have a special meeting a month, and joint-camp in summer yearly. To make more delightful church activities, after church they have acquaintance programs to know each other and there are opportunities to evangelize non-Adventists who sometimes come to join them.
There are three Brazilian groups in Kakegawa shi and
Hamamatsu
shi in Shizuoka-ken, and
Chiba
shi in Chiba-ken. They need more encouragement and support for evangelizing those brothers and sisters. So far their church building has been rental paying monthly 150,000 Yen.
