The First Evangelistic Meetings in Kinshicho, Tokyo
'Light to the Confused Life!'
‘September 21- 24, 2005, the first evangelistic series for PMM (Pioneer Mission Movement) Pastor Kim, Yong Hun was held at Kinshicho, Tokyo since he began planting this church in March 2005. (Photo 1) Dr. Tadaomi Shinmyo, JUC Communication Department Director was the guest speaker. The meeting place was the first floor of a three-floor-building which has a rental office and apartments. The seating capacity of the room is limited to around 25. It is quite convenient in terms of public transportation because it takes only ten minutes from the main station, JR Kinshicho.
The pastor and a few members of the company have worked hard preparing for the series of meetings. Though the number of the Kinshicho company members is small (in fact the average Sabbath attendance in 2004 was 6 persons), they prayed and distributed the handbills.
There were two meetings a day for the first three days, then the fourth day, Sabbath, only one meeting was held. It is always a thrilling and an exciting moment to welcome the people to the first meeting for evangelist, pastor and church members. “I was able to see some familiar faces among the attendants who are members of the neighboring Adventist churches in Tokyo”, said Dr. Shinmyo. “It was so encouraging to see our members supporting the evangelistic meetings through their own attendance bringing their friends.”
Each program began with the beautiful and sweet music by the Golden Angels. As the evangelistic meetings sponsored by the Northern Asia-Pacific Division were conducted at two locations simultaneously, the members of the singing group were divided into two groups of four each. The young men and women sang the heart-moving gospel songs in Japanese, English and Korean. Their smiling faces and music touched the hearts of the listeners. (Photo 2) Several participants purchased the Golden Angels CDs or DVDs.
“After such an excellent musical program, it is really my privilege to preach the gospel to those who are seeking something which they cannot get in the world. I preached seven times all together during the week using the Power Point programs” said Dr. Shinmyo. (Photo 3) The grand title of the series was “Light to the Confused Life!” subtitled “The Family - Human Relationship.” After a meeting one non-baptized old lady confessed me, “I should have listened this message when I had been young to build a happier home.”
Each non-baptized participant was given a book, “Communication between Parents and Children” written by the preacher, as a gift for his or her attendance. Several people requested the author to autograph the book. Another old woman said, “I want to give my daughter this book so that she may improve their relationship between mother and child.”
The average attendant number of the meetings was 28 adults and 2 children per meeting. The largest number of attendance was 38 adults and 4 children on the last day, the Sabbath. The meeting room was filled with people. (Photo 4) We were able to count 21 non-baptized names who were candidates for future Bible studies. Mrs. Sachiyo Hosoda, a church member, was very enthusiastic and brave enough in bringing her 10 friends to the evangelistic meetings. Mrs. Takako Okubo, a non-baptized young mother, attended every meeting with her small daughter.
Pastor Kim, Yong Hun, one of the five pastors as the second group of PMM missionaries to Japan, was assigned to Kinshicho, Tokyo for church planting as well as to assist building up the Nishisugamo Church. He and his wife, Ahn Sung Rye, and son, Kim Kang Han, began their missionary work in March 2005. The original meeting place and name of the company were changed from Bokuto to Kinshicho.
