"General Conference President visits NSD"

Dr. Jan Paulsen, President of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist world church arrived at the Seoul Inchon airport at 5:00 p.m., November 1, 2006. The greeting party was headed by Dr. Jairyong Lee, President of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division. Also present were the officers and directors of NSD and the presidents of each Union territory within the NSD region.

After a 15 hour flight direct from Washington, D.C, USA, Dr. Paulsen was escorted to the VIP lounge. A short news conference had been arranged. Dr. Lee in greeting Dr. Paulsen, said, “How glad we are that you have arrived in Korea again.”

This visit of Dr. Paulson has been planned at the time of the Annual Council of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD), when the regional directors of the Seventh-day Adventist church gather to discuss the regular business of the church.

Just prior to the business session, the Council on Evangelism meets to hear reports on the work within this territory which includes Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Hong Kong / Macau, Taiwan and other unorganized areas. This year, John Ash, Taiwan Conference President, shared the exciting, bold move of the Taiwan Conference to take the necessary steps to become the owner of a television station. Pastor Ash has spent the last 36 years working with the Chinese people teaching and sharing the good news of the soon coming Savior.

Sabbath, November 4, Dr. Paulsen will be the guest speaker at the Seoul Adventist Hospital Church. During the afternoon he will visit the SDA Language Institute which is across the street. The Language Institute currently has 55,000 students in 38 different locations throughout Korea.

One of the highlights of Dr. Paulsen’s visit will be held during the afternoon. Six young pastoral families will be dedicated to the work of church planting as part of the Pioneer Mission Movement (PMM). This impressive ceremony will be preceded by a short concert by the Golden Angels. These two groups, PMM and Golden Angels are a part of the NSD mission to take the Good News to areas where there is no Seventh-day Adventist Church.

These six PMM families will be joining 35 other families already in their field of service. After a year of language training these new families will begin their work of church planting. This current group has been assigned to work in Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The Golden Angels are eight young people who give a year of service as a singing group. They support the work of the PMM pastors by giving mini concerts during the evangelistic meetings the pastors hold. They also visit schools and other institutions during the day sharing the Good News through their music.

Dr. Paulsen said, “I am delighted to be back in the NSD territory again, and especially happy to be visiting Mongolia this time.” His visit to Mongolia is to open the joint venture between.

Sunday evening Sahmyook University invited Dr. Paulsen and the NSD Executive Committee to visit and partake of special meal together with the University officers.

Before leaving NSD territory Dr. Paulsen made a hurried trip to Mongolia. Read the report at: Mongolia Report
