Hong Kong: World Church Leader Preaches to Church Members during Chinese New Year Celebrations

February 10, 2008 Hong Kong

Chinese New Year is a time for festivity, and indeed it was a spiritual feast for Adventist members in Hong Kong.

Pastor Jan Paulsen, world church president, gave an inspiring sermon entitled "Living with expectations" during a special combined worship at Taipo Sam Yuk Secondary School auditorium.  Pastor Paulsen challenged the members to think deeply about expectations in their lives.  The message became even more personal and direct, as Paulsen told the congregation that he himself as a person, not as GC president, also wants to live out God's expectation in his life.

Before Pastor Paulsen's sermon, Pastor Jairyong Lee, NSD president, gave words of encouragement, and reminded members of the importance of mission, and how Adventist work in this region started more than 100 years ago through one dedicated missionary, Abram La Rue.

During Sabbath School time, Pastor Ray Dabrowski, GC Communication Director, shared interesting and eye-opening mission stories of how Jesus changed people's lives around the world, and Pastor Suk Hee Han, NSD Communication Director, concluded the Sabbath School program by leading the congregation into an in-depth study of the week's lesson entitled "Ethnicity and Discipleship".

A total of 44 participants from UT, Hong Kong, and Taiwan came to the Let's Talk program on Feb 10, at 3:00 PM.  The live TV event was hosted at The Asia World-Expo, a world class exhibition center near Hong Kong international airport. Participants were very engaging and lively. They dialogued with Pastor Paulsen on various topics including music, church mission, equipping the laity, personal spirituality and many other issues that young people care about.

The program was broadcast live via satellite to viewers around the world and also through Hope Channel's website at http://www.hopetv.org.
