  Pastor Jonas Arrais was called as the Northern Asia-pacific Division (NSD) Ministerial Secretary and Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries Director at the 2021 NSD Mid-year Committee meeting. Before he was called to the NSD, he was one of the associate ministerial secretaries at the General Conference from 2005-2020. He was also the Editor of the Elder’s Digest magazine and specialist in training and equipping pastors, local church elders, and deacons/deaconesses.

  Pastor Arrais is originally from Brazil, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, a Master of Divinity degree, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Andrews University. He has 37 years of experience as a minister and served for 5 years as Associate Ministerial Secretary for the South American Division (SAD). He is the author of the following books: A Positive Church in a Negative World , Wanted: A Good Pastor , and along with his wife, Joys and Challenges of the Pastoral Family .

  He is married to Raquel Arrais for 39 years and they have two sons: Tiago and Andre (both of them are SDA pastors). They are also blessed by four grandchildren.

  Raquel Queiroz da Costa Arrais, originally from Brazil, holds a bachelor’s degree in education. She earned a master’s degree in pastoral ministry in 1997 from Andrews University Seminary, Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA. She is currently reading for a master’s degree in Arabic studies from Middle East University, Beirut, Lebanon.

  Before being called in 2021 to Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) as director of Children’s, Women’s, and Family Ministries, Raquel Arrais served as Women’s Ministries associate director at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (2005-2021). She served South American Division as Women’s Ministries and Shepherdess associate director (2000–2003) and Children’s Ministries director (2004–2005). Her service in the Adventist Church began as an educator and administrator in many institutions in South American Division.

  Raquel Arrais is the wife of Pastor Jonas Arrais, Ministerial Secretary for NSD. They have two sons, Tiago and Andre who both are pastors, daughters’ in-law, Paula and Natalia, and four young grandchildren. Raquel grew up in a pastoral family and is a third-generation Seventh-day Adventist.
