Mission-wide Pathfinder and Adventurer Camporee in SLM

The Adventist Youth Department of the Sri Lanka Mission (SLM) organized a Mission-wide Pathfinder and Adventurer Camporee at Lakpahana Adventist College and Seminary, Mailapitiya, from September 13-16, 2024, under the theme “Back to the Sanctuary.” Over 350 campers registered for the event, and with staff and visitors included, the total attendance reached nearly 400, making it the largest Pathfinder camp in Sri Lanka in decades.

This Camporee marked a significant milestone, as it was the first Pathfinder camp in seven years and the first Adventurer camp in 19 years. Choi HoYoung, Youth Director of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD), served as the chief guest and speaker for the Divine Service. Also in attendance were Jung HyoSu, President of the SLM, E. A. R. K. Emerson, Executive Secretary of the SLM, and Anthony Francis, Treasurer of the SLM.

The theme, “Back to the Sanctuary,” was brought to life through a model of the Sanctuary, where Pathfinders explored and learned about its significance. A treasure hunt focusing on church history allowed participants to learn about key figures and events that shaped the Adventist movement.

Pathfinder Day was celebrated a week before the camp, during which two individuals were baptized following the divine service. Throughout the Camporee, Pathfinders and Adventurers participated in various activities, including honor and award classes, skill demonstrations, the final round of the Pathfinder Bible Experience (PBE), exhibitions, fairs, campfires, hikes, games, and an investiture service, where 13 new Master Guides were invested.

The Camporee’s success was due to the dedicated efforts of the steering committee, the supporting staff, and financial contributions from NSD, SLM, institutions, and individuals. Thilan Weerasinghe, Associate Pathfinder Director of SLM, stated, “Above all, this event was not possible without the Grace of God. We want to thank our Lord for guiding us through various challenges and showing us that with Him, anything is possible.”
